After three EP's in four years, Austin native Michaela Newman emerges as fully-formed synth pop persona Aela x.

Newman began writing songs before she hit double digits.

Her professional journey began as half of (now disbanded) acoustic-pop duet Jake & Jean, an  experience that afforded her many firsts: first studio session, first release, first breakup. Following a two-year hiatus, the aftermath of the split culminated in a solo EP under her given name during her first year at The University of Texas at Austin. But despite warm receptions for both Jake & Jean and her solo project, Newman never completely settled into either.

Now hardly a stranger to the independent musician's routine, her past endeavors are merely the necessary prologue to a long-anticipated narrative. For nearly a decade, Newman felt herself being pulled toward electronic music. Her early teens coincided with the emergence of a host of female-led electropop acts, a subgenre that catapulted the likes of Lorde, Ellie Goulding, Sylvan Esso, CHVRCHES, and Maggie Rogers. It was in this space, among these influences, that Michaela came of age and the seeds for Aela x were sown.

Half hologram, half monochrome, and entirely reflective, Aela x explores love and longing through melodic conversations. Her debut single, 'Only Kiss,' arrived on August 10, 2018.
